Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio

Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio has a Master’s Degree in Law-Civilistics awarded by the Law School of Coimbra’s University. He is a career Magistrate, former Councillor Judge of the Supreme Court. From January 1990 to April 1996 he was Secretary of State of the Reform of the Judiciary, Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament. From March 2003 to March 2006, he was Minister of the Republic for the Autonomous Region of the Azores. Leading an intense civic life, he is a member of several associations, namely the APAV (Support for the Victim’s Portuguese Association) and CRESCER-SER, of which he is co-founder. He published several articles and gave many conferences on subjects like justice, law, education, Human Rights, Children’s Rights and general citizenship. The King of Spain granted him the Grand Cross of the Order of São Raimundo de Peñaforte and the Portuguese President granted him the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Christ. He is a member of the Portuguese Culture International Academy and currently is President of the General Council of Minho’s University.
