João Bernardes

João Pedro Bernardes earned a Ph. D. in Archaeology from the University of Coimbra. He is an associate professor at the University of Algarve, where he teaches units in Cultural Heritage and Archaeology undergraduate courses, as well as in several MA and Ph. D. programmes. He has been involved in and in charge of national and international research projects on Roman archaeology and on the promotion of cultural heritage. He’s the author of about 70 published works, including books, as well as contributions for co-authored books and scientific journals in Portugal and abroad (Spain, France, Italy, England, USA), writing mostly on the subjects of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage. He is a lead researcher at the Centre for Research on Archaeology, Art and Heritage Science, a joint project involving the Universities of Coimbra, Porto, and Algarve, and Mértola’s Archaeological Site. He is currently director of the Art and Humanities Department at the University of Algarve.
